The Burke and Robinson practice, of Southwest Georgia, is proud to offer
a new service to our clients - the ability to remove unwanted hair
and perform vein therapy using the new CoolGlide® Laser.
With this instrument, we can now preform hair removal treatments to all parts of the
body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. We can
also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line.
The
CoolGlide® Difference - Sclerotherapy is a
tedious process which involves injecting each vein; treatments
with CoolGlide® systems involve no painful injections. The
CoolGlide® system's longer wavelength allows it to treat patients
of ALL SKIN TONES. Used by many leaders in the
medical field, CoolGlide® systems have a special adjustable
handpiece that allows us to customize the treatments to your vein
removal needs.
What
Are Spider Veins? - Spider Veins, or Telangiectasia,
are those small, red, pink, and blue blood vessels that appear
most frequently on the face and legs. In contrast, Varicose Veins
are usually larger in diameter and may appear raised with a bluish
color. These veins may be related to a more serious vascular disorder,
and may require careful evaluation by your doctor prior to treatment
with the CoolGlide® Laser System.
Skin
Tones And Areas - CoolGlide® laser systems
feature a unique design and long wave-length that allow it to
treat patients of all skin tones. Our physicians will advise you
if CoolGlide® treatments are right for you. Unsightly veins
may be removed from all parts of the body, including sensitive
areas like the face and behind the knees.
Minimal
Pain - Most patients experience a stinging sensation
as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Due
to variations of pain tolerance, a topical anesthetic is available
to be used. In rare cases, a mild oral sedative may be given.
Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
Treatment
- CoolGlide® laser systems deliver pulses
of light energy which cause blood within the vein to coagulate,
eventually destroying the vessels. Targeted vessels are treated,
leaving the surrounding tissue intact. Treatments usually take
several minutes, depending upon the number of vessels treated
and their location. Often, patients find that one or two treatments
may be sufficient for their vein removal needs. However, for optimal
results, multiple treatments may be necessary. The number of treatments
necessary depends on the number of vessels being treated, and
the color and size of those vessels. Since individual results
vary, ask your medical professional about your specific condition.

After
Treatment - Most patients find that the majority
of treated veins have shown significant improvement within two
to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not
be apparent for several months. Patients are generally permitted
to resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended
that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise
for the first 24 hours after treatment. For patients who get their
legs treated, our physicians may advise you to avoid hot baths.
The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed
to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
Cost
- The cost of the initial treatment of spider
veins is $200.00. It involves consultation with the doctor and
up to 30 minutes of treatment. After the initial treatment, the
cost is $75.00 per 15 minute intervals.
Mild
Sensation - As the name implies, the CoolGlide®
handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When
the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild
pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication
is typically required.
Treatment
- For permanent removal of unwanted hair, most
areas will require between 3 - 6 treatments, but depends upon
many factors such as the hair's thickness, the area treated, and
the hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively
growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct
phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide® Lasers
work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth
phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter the
growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be
necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

After
Treatment - Immediately following your CoolGlide®
Laser treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Around
3 - 7 days after treatment you may experience what seems to be
regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed
as a result of your treatment, and are not regrowing. In between
treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible
to shave.
CoolGlide®
Laser Therapy vs Electrolysis - Electrolysis is
a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting
a needle into each individual hair follicle, and delivering an
electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires
years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light
energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, CoolGlide®
Lasers effectively treat an area that would take over an hour
with electrolysis, in just seconds.
Cost
and Payment Options - Depending upon the area
to be treated, the cost for laser hair reduction ranges from $500
for a one year package to $2500 for a one year package. The smaller
the area, the lower the cost. For instance, the upper lip or chin
incurs the lowest cost, whereas a 4 area one year package would
cost $2500.
Convenient payment plans are available. For example, you may choose
to pay 1/2 of the cost of a one year package when the treatments
begin, then pay the balance within six months. By committing to
a one-year package, you get a considerable discount on treatments.
We accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. Call to schedule
